The voices of your past and future

MIND CHATTER…MAKE IT GO AWAY…

What is mind-chatter and where does it come from? Is it from your mind, heart or gut or from all of the above? Mind chatter can make you crazy. It will never fully go away, but here are some ways you can let go of the unwanted and annoying chatter. Don’t you want to get rid of that?

Mind chatter is made up of voices from your past: your parents, old relationships, siblings, teachers, bosses, etc…

Philippians 3:13-14
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

“Your past history and all of your hurts are no longer here in your physical reality. Why should we allow them to hurt us by being in our mind?  Friend, Don’t allow them to be in your mind, cluttering up your present moments. Your life is like a play, move onto the next act.”

I love the fact that we have to let go of things in our past, But notice we have to let go...... Don’t let them continue to  clutter the waters, and events  in your mind, but most of your dreams. We need our minds to be clear, focusing on the present. To stay in the NOW, we need to pay attention to what is happening at this very minute. Most of the chatter is old stuff or future stuff that hasn’t occurred yet. The Bible says:
Matthew 6:25-34
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Worrying about things that you have no control over. Yes, it’s important to be mindful and set goals for your future, but you can’t be worrying about your retirement when you haven’t retired yet (and you shouldn’t be negatively entertaining that thought when you are not retired).

To stop the mind chatter, you should tell yourself NEXT.” He’s saying to focus on what is coming up NEXT in your mind. Create positive thoughts to replace the negative chatter. As we read in the scriptures....Forgetting those things which are behind

Here’s my experience with mind chatter. I find that when I feel calm, I have less and less mind chatter. It’s when I’m projecting my future and worrying about stuff I have no control over that the mind chatter is totally out of control. That’s when it’s in its worst form, off the charts! So I really believe that the key here is to try, as much as you can, to both stay in and enjoy the present. Go into that peaceful place. It’s easier to be positive when you are present and somehow, the mind chatter isn’t cluttering your mind and  running off to the races.
Living in the present means to live in the moment you are in, All we have is NOW, so why live in the past, or worry about the future.....so let's just enjoy each and every moment, and let God take care of the rest.

It is so annoying sometimes when I meditate. That grocery list is getting right in there, going right into my mind chatter. As this happens, I literally say to myself “NEXT. Next thought.” And it’s not about the grocery list. I am concentrating on me and the grocery list starts to disappear. Meditation is a practice that takes time and patience. Be patient with yourself. As you get into the flow of doing it consistently, your mind chatter becomes less and less. It never totally goes away because we are human. It’s life and we are conditioned that way. But take the time to take life slower. Be less hard on yourself. Most of the mind chatter is our own self-doubt created by past critics. It’s really not your voice. It’s old stuff. Get rid of the old stuff. Let the new, fresh you come into play. Be here now, today, with your new thoughts and let that negative mind chatter vanish into thin air. Aren’t you ready for that?

Then when you have sorted thru your clutter what belongs in the past leave it there, and what is in the future....Tell you mind not right now! and live in the day you are as The bible says:
